Carpet Whipping

Carpet binding is the process of taking an off-cut of carpet and transforming it into a rug that can be used around the home. You can take a fraying, offcut of carpet that would be otherwise useless and put it to good use with out carpet binding service.

Our carpet binding service is what Fringes of Plymouth was first built upon. Before we even though about selling rugs, Fringes of Plymouth was just one man with a carpet binding machine. These days our carpet binding service is in full swing. The whipping machine is always on the go.

Whenever you visit the showroom, you will see our machinist binding carpets and the click clack of the needle pounding it's way through hundreds of miles of carpets per year.

Do you do carpet edging or carpet whipping?

Don't be fooled by all the different phrases out there - carpet binding, carpet edging and carpet whipping are all one and the same. Different people have a different name for it. We have heard all sorts!

So the answer, yes we do. Whether you want to call it carpet binding, carpet edging, carpet whipping, carpet overlocking or anything else is up to you.

How do I get my carpet remnants edged?

This is a very simple process. Bring your offcuts of carpets in store, our staff will book your carpet in for our carpet binding service. Typically this service can take 4-7 days to complete. We take your carpets, and we cut them to your specified sizes and then feed them through the whipping machine. This finishes off the carpets in a colour matched to the pile of the carpet (or a contrast, should you prefer).

How much does it cost to edge a carpet?

Our carpet binding service is priced according to the size of the carpet. For an accurate quote, please contact us. Upon doing so, provide the finished sizes of the rugs you would like and we can provide you a quote over the phone.

Please note: boat carpets, motorhome carpets and caravan carpets cannot be quoted over the phone.

What's the biggest size you can do?

Whilst our workshop is bigger than ever, we are limited on size. The larger the carpet, the more people and time it takes, too. We have to draw the line at 4m x 4m as the largest size of carpet we can bind. For long thin runners, we can do considerably longer than 4m. We do recommend getting in touch if you have something that you would deem extra large in size.

Business to Business carpet edging accounts available

Fringes of Plymouth have dealt with other carpet shops around Plymouth since we started our carpet binding service, if you're a carpet fitter or have a carpet shop in Plymouth. We are more than happy to provide you with a business to business account or ad hoc quote.

Please note: we do not accept used carpet. Used carpet can damage our whipping machine.
