One thing we don’t do here at Fringes of Plymouth is sit on our hands. If we’ve got a minute to stop and think, it usually ends up in something being moved around. Would you believe it? A flicker of an idea turns into a mammoth job.
Where do we start with this one? We were thinking that as soon as we decided that it was time to move the workshop. It wasn’t just that it seemed like a good idea – it was also a necessary evil.
For our workshop to operate at maximum efficiency, and to be able to cater to most shades of carpet, we need to have a huge range of binding yarns. They also all need to be immediately visible to our machinst. The problem with so many yarns and having them all visible, is that they take up so much space. They’re not easily stored and with more and more shades of carpet on the market, we have more yarns than ever.
So here we are again, our workshop has now been moved into the widest part of our showroom to maximise the space available to us.
But we didn’t stop at just moving around the workshop and lower showroom. We had to find a space for all the stock that we had to displace by moving the workshop. Therefore, we had little choice but to rearrange the entire top showroom too.
